Dr. Ellen Akehurst is a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Psychologist specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology. She is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Practitioner Psychologist who currently serves in the NHS, working within the Adult Neuropsychology and Stroke Early Supported Discharge services in North Yorkshire. In this role, Dr. Akehurst supports individuals with a wide range of acquired and degenerative neurological conditions through comprehensive cognitive assessments, risk management, and therapeutic interventions. Her therapeutic approach integrates models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Systemic Therapy.
Dr. Akehurst's work spans inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, where she also provides supervision and consultation to multidisciplinary teams to enhance care delivery. In addition, she holds the position of Research Lead for the Neuropsychology service, contributing to research panels, supervising doctoral students, and lecturing at Teesside University. Her teaching topics include Neuropsychology, Functional Neurological Disorders, Qualitative Systematic Reviews, and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Dr. Akehurst is currently pursuing the combined knowledge and practice MSc training program in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Glasgow. This program, regarded as the gold standard for professional training in the UK, will qualify her for inclusion on the British Psychological Society's Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists upon completion.
