Dr Jack Garfield, Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology
Dr Garfield is a Principal Clinical Psychologist and Health Care and Professions Council (HCPC) registered (PYL041490) Practitioner (Clinical) Psychologist. Dr Garfield currently holds an NHS role in a Major Trauma Service providing acute psychological and cognitive assessments for people with complex polytrauma, neurorehabilitation and physical health needs. This work involves providing psychological first aid to both patients and their families/carers, supporting patients’ initial adjustment to significant life changing injuries, and assisting members of the care team to understand the impacts of neuropsychological changes on patients’ presentation and recovery potential. Dr Garfiled has experience of working appropriately within legislative contexts including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
Dr Garfield's clinical work, during and since qualification, has spanned the ability and age range, working with both children and adults, as well as working with ethnically diverse clinical populations. Dr Garfiled has experience working alongside external and partner agencies and have skills in risk assessment and management across a range of acute and community settings in both the NHS and private sector work.
Dr Garfiled has offered teaching on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for people with a learning disability with or without Autism on the Teesside Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme and have delivered workshops on the application of Compassion Focused Therapy to a range of clinical populations. Dr Garfiled is due to co-deliver workshops on racially equitable practice at Buckinghamshire New University and also supervises Trainee Clinical Psychologists at the University of Hull.
